Character InformationName: Jo Harvelle
Fandom: Supernatural
Point in Canon: 5x10
Age: 24
Personality: Having been raised in a Roadhouse, Jo grew up around Hunters, and thanks to the influence of her dad, she's always wanted to be one herself. She's independent, loyal, and determined to a fault. She's not really trying to prove herself so much as she's trying to do her own thing and just live her own life apart from her mom. Since she knows about the bad things in the world and she knows she can fight them, she'd rather do that instead of stay at home like her mom wants her to.
After her their home was destroyed and Jo and Ellen went on the road, her mother began to trust her more, as Jo started to show her just how much she had truly learned from her father-and every hunter that had ever rolled into their lives. Neither one of them fully trusted the Winchesters after Ellen revealed what she knew to Jo, and Meg!Sam pretty much mind!raped her, but when the time came they didn't sway in their loyalty to them.
When Jo and Ellen met up with Sam and Dean for the last time, Jo was different from the girl she'd been two years prior. She was tougher, confident, and now had no problem resisting Dean's charms. She showed not a hint of fear when she volunteered to stay behind to give the guys a chance to go. As she died, her last thoughts were of them, and of her mother-and of disappointment in herself for not being able to hold on long enough to set off the bomb.
Brief History: (In your own words) From a young age, Jo was taught to understand that there was evil in the world, and she had to keep it a secret. Her father was a hunter, one of the best in her eyes, and he taught her about weapons when she was young, even giving her a bow and arrow set for her 8th birthday. When she was ten, he was killed, though she didn't find out any details of how until many years later. As she grew up, she learned everything she could from the hunters (who she called her 'Uncles' when she was a kid) who came through her mother's bar, the Roadhouse. Her first crush was on a hunter, and her first real hunt was with one of the best, a man named Gordon Walker-though it ended with her mother tracking her down before the night was over. Her first boyfriend-and the guy she gave her virginity to-was a hunter as well. Though he didn't last long either. Guys just weren't a permanent fixture in her life (cept Ash, and that's only because he lived at the Roadhouse).
By the time John Winchester's sons walked into her life, Jo was tired of going on supervised hunts. Seeing two guys who were her own age (more or less) out there on her own led her to finally leave the Roadhouse and strike out on her-which led to her mother tracking her down on her first almost-solo case. Did I mention that she had sent Sam & Dean on a hunt, then followed them? Immediately after, she broke off contact with them after learning that John Winchester was the one who led to her father's death. A few months later, she was working in a bar while in Duluth, MN, and Sam Winchester showed up. The only thing is, she didn't know that it wasn't Sam. He was possessed, and proceeded to not only rough her up, but play some serious mindgames with her, playing not only on how she felt about Dean, but also the relationship between her father and John Winchester. Meg, the demon who was possessing Sam, told Jo that John killed Bill because he was on the verge of death. Dean showed up just in time and stopped Sam from killing her and she returns the favor by patching him up after Meg!Sam shoots him. She offers to go with Dean to help save Sam, but he refuses her help, and she lets him go.
She meets up with her mom again after the Roadhouse is destroyed, and begins to travel together, going on their own hunts as a mother-daughter team.
Two and a half years after the last time she sees the Winchesters, Jo and Ellen run into them in River Pass, CO, where they've gone to help a fellow hunter kill a group of demons who have begun attacking the town. Jo and Ellen are separated, and Jo ends up teaming up with the other Hunter and the townspeople. They attack Sam and Ellen, believing them to be possessed by demons, but Jo starts to realize that none of the usual techniques are working on Sam. Dean and Ellen show up and manage to convince Jo and the Hunter that one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse is responsible for fooling everyone into attacking each other.
A few weeks later, the Harvelles help the Winchesters to regain the Colt for use against Lucifer. They track it to an abandoned town, where they once again come across Meg, the demon who possessed Sam before, who sends hellhounds after them. Jo is attacked in fatally wounded, and tells everyone else to leave her be, along with some bombs designed to kill the hellhounds. Ellen stays behind with her to help set the trap, but before it's sprung, Jo dies.
Powers/ Abilities: Research, marksmanship. Jo is intelligent and has a natural aptitude for organizing, processing information, and handling stressful situations. She also excells in knife usage, archery, and in her knowledge of explosives. Having been raised in a Roadhouse, Jo grew up around Hunters, and thanks to the influence of her dad, she's always wanted to be one herself. She's independent, loyal, and determined to a fault. She's not really trying to prove herself so much as she's trying to do her own thing and just live her own life apart from her mom. Fearless to the point of recklessness, Jo has a habit of walking into dangerous situations, but knows how to cope with them.
Weaknesses: Bull-headed, stubborn, and not very quick to trust, Jo is sometimes a little quick to jump the gun and often would prefer to shoot first and ask questions later. She's sometimes fairly optimistic, but avoids using alcohol as a crutch if she can, having been raised in a bar and seeing too many Hunters go down that road.
